We have always had the Black and Decker Spacemakers and never had any problems with them. I have seen many negative reviews on this can opener, and it is not the machine. It is the impatient Operators of this device. If you take your time, and match the can up to the cutter, hold the bottom of the can with your left hand finger of choice while it is opening the can, it will be a complete opening success for you.
The first time we installed it, the lever wouldn’t open all the way. I was able to open a can, but I knew it was going to bother me that I couldn’t fully lift the lever. There were two problems. The can opener needed to be moved forward (although with the cabinet overhang that wasn’t going to be enough), and it need to be lower.
